Saving Money On Your Car Insurance Quote

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It is truly surprising to note the number of consumers who appear to be very savvy shoppers who are always aware of bargain, yet when it comes to saving money on their car insurance, they don't have a clue. What is even worse is that even though they will comparison shop something like a big screen TV down to the detail of where the transistors were made, they couldn't tell you how much their deductibles are, nor even exact what coverages they are carrying on their car insurance policy.

One of the common sayings here for people in this situation is that they are stepping over the dollars to get to the dimes. Are you one of these people? Let's look at some things that you should consider about car insurance, and what to look for when you are doing comparison shopping of your next car insurance quotes.

If you are like most consumers, you probably just renew your car insurance every year because you don't want to take the time or make the time to do comparison shopping. While that is fine and certainly makes your existing car insurance company happy, you are not doing yourself any favors and are probably spending more money than you need to for the coverage you need.

That is not to say that your current car insurance provider is charging you too much. They may in fact be providing you with the most aggressive rate policy possible with just enough coverage so that you are protected, yet not over-insured. The problem is that if you don't comparison shop every year, you don't know that for sure, do you?

You should sit down and determine what coverage you need to have, either by personal preference or by state law in the state where you live. You probably need to pay into the state's uninsured motorist fund. But beyond that, you need what is known as PL-PD or Personal Liability Personal Damage. This protects you if you are in an accident that causes damages to another car or property, or injury to another person.

You do not need collision insurance, which is quite pricey in most states, if your car is paid off. If your car is not paid off, the finance company will require you to carry collision insurance to protect their interests in the vehicle. But the price of collision insurance varies greatly depending on your deductible. With a $100 deductible, the cost of this coverage will probably be about three times greater than what it would be with a $500 or $1000 deductible. Determine how you drive, where you drive, and then determine what type of deductible you should have for collision insurance.

Also check your coverage limits. Not all insurance plans are created equally. For example, with personal liability, one quote may have a ceiling of $50,000 (which is peanuts in today's world), while another policy may have a ceiling of $500,000 which is much closer to reality. Make sure that when you compare policies, you are really comparing equal coverage with equal ceilings.

Lastly, don't forget to check into getting an online car insurance quote. It will not cost you anything, and you may be pleasantly surprised to find out how aggressively some of those policies are priced.

There are many different facets to a car insurance quote but for your own financial health, you should take the time to comparison shop at least once a year. The money you save will be much better served in your wallet than in the insurance company's pockets.

What Are the Different Types of Auto Insurance?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are a number of different types of auto insurance that are available to drivers. In the United States, auto insurance is mandatory and not a choice. However, drivers can enjoy a number of varying insurance offerings in order to allow them the flexibility in cost and coverage that they are looking for from their insurance company. Not all insurance companies offer the varying types of coverage, so it is very important for you to check with your company to learn the limitations of what they have to offer you.

Liability coverage from an auto insurance company will cover the damage that occurs to other drivers as a result of your actions. There are a few different levels to liability coverage. First, bodily injury liability will cover the cost of another person's medical costs or death if they are hurt in an accident that is found to be your fault. If a person in an accident files a case against you as a result of the accident, liability coverage can provide you with some legal defense. You will want your liability coverage to ensure that if a claim is brought against you, you have enough insurance to cover a judgment without involving your own personal finances or assets.

Property damage liability covers the cost of repair or replacement when you damage someone else's property in an accident if the accident is proven to be your fault. Insurance collectively referred to as comprehensive and collision coverage will cover the cost of repair or replacement of your vehicle in the event of an accident. In some cases, the coverage will also cover the cost of another vehicle if you are not driving your own when the accident occurs.

Comprehensive insurance coverage can also cover the cost of your vehicle if your car is stolen, damaged by animals, a fire or flooding. Specific coverage is limited to the terms and conditions set forth in your insurance policy; as such, individuals need to check with their insurance company for details in their policy.

Underinsured motorist property damage covers the cost of repairs when the negligent party possesses insurance, but the limitations of which would not be enough to repair the damage caused. Underinsured motorist bodily damage covers the medical costs for you, members of your household and passengers in your car when the insurance of the negligent driver does not cover the entirety of the amount needed. Uninsured property damage protects the vehicle of a person who gets into an accident with a negligent driver who does not have insurance.

Uninsured motorist bodily injury protects insurance policy holders, members or their household and passengers in their vehicle from medical costs or the costs of death. This policy will be relevant in the event that an no-fault driver does not have insurance. Only twelve states within the United States offer no-fault insurance, where insurance coverage is covered on the part of the policy holder regardless of whose fault the accident may be. This means that your vehicle or bodily damage will be covered by your own insurance, whether you are the negligent driver or not.

Auto Insurance Estimates Vary by State

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Auto insurance estimates are tricky, as insurance premiums depend on a whole number of factors. Insurance premiums depend on the state, car, driver, type of coverage that a motorist decides to purchase, and others. Many people purchase merely the state required minimum, while others also purchase additional coverage for increased protection.

Following are some sample automobile insurance premium rates. The residents of Iowa, Idaho, and Maine pay a little over $600. Those who live in Massachusetts and Rhode Island pay over $1,000. The residents of New York, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. pay an average of $1,200. As you can see, the discrepancy is quite astounding. Moreover, the reduced rates that you can obtain from some companies versus some other companies are also mind-boggling.

The best way to obtain car insurance estimates for your state is to fill out a number of insurance quotes. This is one of the only ways to obtain accurate estimates. The more complete the information is that you provide on the form, the more accurate your estimate will be.

Prior to shopping for auto insurance estimates, you need to decide on the type of coverage that you need. The most common types of insurance coverage include: liability, coverage for injuries, coverage for damages, collision, comprehensive, uninsured and under-insured motorist coverage. You are likely to be required to purchase a state-required minimum amount of some of the above in your state. You may want to consider whether the state-required minimum is enough for you, or whether you would be better off obtaining some additional types of coverage.

Although many states in the union have laws that state that insurance companies have to offer a discount for having an anti-theft device in the car, such as an alarm system, Georgia doesn't. The people of Atlanta need not fret though as many car insurance companies in this area of state, actually encourage their clients to purchase and install a safety device by offering them cheaper car insurance. Auto Insurance Rates - Does the Color of Your Car Matter?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Someone at some place during some point in time started a rumor that owning a red car means you will get more speeding tickets and have higher insurance rates. The reason I have heard most often is due to red standing out more from other cars and therefore the police officers eye sees the red car and pulls it over even though other say, black cars driving near the red car are speeding as well. This reasoning seems somewhat logical, but what about for car insurance rates? Does owning a certain color of car affect your prices?

Perhaps the primary reason for the continued presence of this alleged myth is the psychology behind how a certain person chooses their car color of choice. Studies on this matter have determined a theory that people who purchase a red vehicle like to drive fast or feel as if they need to speed through everything in life. That statistic provides a direct correlation between the "more speeding tickets" portion of the myth, so maybe there really is something to this.

Not to ruin the article, but the short answer to 'Does the color of your car affect your auto insurance rates?' is no, it does not. The only time this may be possible is if the insurance agent that sees your car when you pull into their parking lot or as they take pictures of your vehicle for their records does not like the color of your car and takes it out personally on your policy. If you feel this is being done, it's probably best to move on from that company anyway, but that's another story.

Sometimes the suggestion has been made that the Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN has a certain code to notify the color of the car, but this is not the case. The VIN does not store details on car color in its code.

Car insurance companies look at several other factors though, such as the year, make and model, how big your engine is, and also your previous driving record and where you live. Where you live is usually determined by zip code. So, if your favorite color is candy apple red, go ahead and buy that car or paint your current car without worry of being pulled over more or getting robbed with high insurance rates.

Car Insurance in New Jersey - Know the Basics

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Auto insurance is mandatory in New Jersey, but the type and cost of that coverage can vary considerably. Every day, consumers are finding that there are options available to make it easier to comply with the law. The New Jersey Automobile insurance Cost Reduction Act mandated that a basic policy be available to all drivers.
It is essential to realize that you are breaking the law if you drive uninsured. The penalties for driving uninsured are getting more severe - in addition to risking economic loss by not having insurance protection, you risk fines, suspension of driver's license or registration and even time in jail. In the future, your car could be impounded if you are caught behind the wheel without coverage.

The Basic Policy should be considered by those with few family responsibilities and few real assets. It can provide a transition for younger drivers who are just beginning work, providing a basic, minimum protection when they may be least able to afford more comprehensive coverage.

Let's review the New Jersey auto insurance Basic Policy. The Basic Policy offers less protection, but at a lower cost than the Standard insurance policy.

Bodily Injury Liability

Coverage for claims and lawsuits by people injured as a result of an accident you cause. Coverage is not included but $10,000 coverage for all persons, per accident is available as an option.

Property Damage Liability

Coverage for claims and lawsuits by people whose property is damaged as a result of an accident you cause. Coverage of $5,000 per accident is provided.

Personal Injury Protection

Coverage for injuries sustained in an automobile accident by you or other persons covered under your policy. Coverage of $15,000 per person, per accident and up to $250,000 for permanent or significant injury is provided as defined in the policy.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage

This type of coverage would pay for property damage or bodily injury if you are in an accident caused by an uninsured motorist (a driver who does not have the minimum level of insurance required by law) or a driver who is insured, but who has less coverage than your underinsured motorist coverage. This is not included in the Basic Policy.

Collision

Coverage for damage to your vehicle as the result of a collision with another car or other object. This coverage is not included in the Basic Policy.

Comprehensive

Coverage for damage to your vehicle that is not a result of a collision, such as theft of your car, vandalism, flooding, fire or a broken windshield. Comprehensive coverage also pays if you collide with an animal. This also is not included in the Basic Policy.

Collision and comprehensive coverage are available as options on policies issued through PAIP (Personal Automobile Insurance Plan) or on voluntary policies issued by some insurance companies. This is very significant for anyone who has a vehicle loan or lease that requires such coverage.

Another affordable car insurance option in New Jersey is the Dollar a Day Auto Insurance Policy or theSpecial Automobile Insurance Policy (SAIP). This is a new initiative to help make limited auto insurance coverage available to drivers who are eligible for Federal Medicaid with hospitalization. Such drivers can obtain a medical coverage-only policy at a cost of $365 a year.

People who are currently enrolled in federal Medicaid with hospitalization are eligible for the Dollar a Day policy. You are eligible if the Card Run Identifier on the upper left of your Medicaid ID card has an asterisk "*" after the code and "SAIP" is printed on the lower right of the card.

The SAIP policy can be obtained at most insurance agencies. There are two payment options: $360 if you pay up front or $365 in two installments.

The policy covers -emergency treatment immediately following an accident and treatment of serious brain and spinal cord injuries up to $250,000. It also provides a $10,000 death benefit. It does not cover -outpatient treatments such as doctors' visits covered by Medicaid, damage you may cause to other persons or property, or damages to your own car.

The policy only covers those enrolled in Medicaid. If there is one car and several people in the household enrolled in Medicaid, they can all be covered by the same policy. However, there can only be one car per policy.

To apply for this policy, bring the driver's licenses for all operators of the vehicle to be insured and the vehicle's registration and your Medicaid identification card that shows that all persons to be covered under the policy are enrolled in Medicaid.

Remember for both of these types of New Jersey car insurance policies, if you do not have any liability coverage; you are responsible for paying for the personal hardships and some economic damages, such as lost wages, that you cause. The insurer will not provide or pay for a lawyer to represent you if you are sued. Your assets will be at risk, including the risk of having money deducted from your wages if a judgment is entered against you. And, if you lack coverage and someone hits you, you cannot sue.

Illinois Car Insurance Requirements

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Illinois Law requires all motor vehicle owners to have minimum amounts of auto liability insurance. In addition, lending institutions may require physical damage insurance to protect their interests in a financed vehicle.

In the State of Illinois the required minimum coverage for bodily injury is $20,000 per person injured in any one accident and $40,000 for all persons injured in any one accident.

The required minimum coverage for property damage is $15,000 for injury to or the destruction of property of others in any one accident.

Optional insurance may include Uninsured Motorist Coverage. The total amount of this insurance coverage must be equal to the bodily injury liability limits, unless specifically rejected in writing. The amount of Uninsured Motorist coverage may never be less than that which is legally required for Bodily Injury Liability Coverage.

Liability insurance will cover bodily injury (costs stemming from injury or death to pedestrians or to occupants in another vehicle) or property damage (costs stemming from damage to another person's vehicle or property, i.e., fences, trees and buildings) caused by the policy holder's negligent operation of the vehicle. Additionally, this coverage may also be used if a member of the policy holder's family or another person with permission to use the vehicle caused an accident. Legal defense in lawsuits may also be covered under this insurance.

Illinois requires liability limits of 20/40/15 which represent $20,000 for bodily injury coverage per person and $40,000 for bodily injury cover per accident which will pay for medical bills and lost wages. The last number of 15 represents $15,000 for property damage coverage per accident which will pay for repairs and/or replacement of objects damaged or destroyed other than the policy holder's own vehicle.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and No-Fault Coverage are not required by the state, however, Uninsured (UM) as well as Underinsured Motorist Coverage (UIM) is mandatory. The UM coverage will pay expenses for bodily injuries caused by a hit-and-fun driver or a driver without auto liability insurance who is at fault. The monetary limits here are $20,000 per person and $40,000 per accident. UIM coverage will pay the difference between the policy holder's UIM limits and the liability limits of the driver causing the accident if those limits are lower than UIM. This is required only if the policy holder purchases higher limits of UM coverage.

Collision Coverage as well as Comprehensive Coverage may also be required with regard to actual physical damage.

Auto Insurance Estimates

Image : http://www.flickr.com

A lot of people will get an auto insurance plan from the first company that is referred to them, but it is worth taking a few minutes to compare auto insurance estimates from multiple companies in order to get the best rates. Thanks to the internet it only takes literally a few minutes to get quotes from a dozen insurance companies.

It doesn't hurt at all to check out rates from other top insurance companies. If you don't like what you see you can always choose the first insurance company you were going to go with. However, it could end up saving you hundreds of dollars a year to get a few quick quotes from other companies.

Each insurance company has different types of discounts they offer to different groups of drivers and you might qualify for these discounts. You can get a student discount if you're a young driver, a senior citizen discount for older drivers, a good student discount for students that have a high grade point average, a safe driver discount, and many more. You're not going to know if you qualify for one or more of these discounts if you don't see what's available at different insurers.

I would also suggest that you get quotes on insurance from a third party website. Insurance websites have quote comparisons but we all know that those quotes might be more than a little biased towards their own insurance policies. There are literally hundreds of quote comparison websites that you can easily find by doing a quick search online.

Where to Get Cheap Car Insurance for Students

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Students typically have little extra money to spend, but unfortunately have to pay top dollar for car insurance, with drivers under age 25 paying the highest car insurance rates of anyone. So where can you get cheap car insurance for students?

Shop Around

Insurance rates can vary widely from company to company, so you need to comparison shop to make sure you're getting the cheapest car insurance you can.

The best place to comparison shop for car insurance is on an insurance comparison website. On such a website, you complete a form with information about your vehicles, personal information, coverage limits, and deductibles. Then you'll receive fast quotes from multiple A-rated insurance companies and you can choose the cheapest quote from the best company.

On the best comparison websites, you can also talk with insurance professionals through an online chat service or toll-free telephone service and get all your insurance questions answered (see link below).

Plan to Save

To keep your car insurance as cheap as possible, follow these tips:

* Keep your grades up so you can qualify for a good student discount.

* Enroll in a driver's education or defensive driving class.

* Drive carefully and safely so you can qualify for a good driver discount after three years with no tickets or accidents.

* Keep your credit rating in good shape. If you have poor credit, your insurance costs may be higher.

* Before you buy a car, check into the cost to insure it. Your premium will be affected by the car's sticker price, potential repair costs, overall safety record, safety features, and the likelihood of theft.

* Set your comprehensive and collision deductibles as high as you can afford. If your car is more than five years old, consider dropping comprehensive and collision coverage altogether.

* Ask your insurance company if there are any additional discounts you might qualify for so you can get the cheapest car insurance possible.

How Insurers Make a Car Insurance Estimate

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The things that are looked at in a car insurance estimate can be mystifying. Why should it matter whether your car is paid off? And who cares whether it is a Ford or a Dodge?

Insurers know what they're doing. Their estimates are based on a wide variety of factors that go together to determine their risk. When you take out an insurance policy, what you're really doing is asking them to take some of your risk and paying them to do it - so the only fair way to determine this is to look at all your risk factors.

The most obvious factor as to whether you are likely to cost them money is you and your driving record. Are you a safe driver? Do you have tickets, and have you been found at fault in accidents before? Even if you were not at fault in an accident where you were a driver, insurers take this into consideration because people who have an accident where they were 100% not at fault still have accidents at a higher rate after this first one. If you have taken a driver safety course, you may be able to get a lower rate.

Your age is a consideration; very young drivers, especially teenage males, tend to have more accidents. Very old drivers also have accidents at higher rates. A good car insurance estimate takes this into consideration, as well as smoking and drinking habits if it has a record.

Beyond your risk of being in an accident at all, insurers want to look at how much damage will actually be done to passengers in an accident that does occur. If you do not wear your seat belt, you will pay a higher rate because you are more likely to be seriously injured. (Ironically, motorcyclists who don't wear helmets often get a lower rate because they are likely to be killed in an accident, which costs the insurance company less.) Safety devices like airbags count for something, as does equipment on your car like anti-lock brakes. You may pay a higher rate with some insurers if you have a lot of passengers on a regular basis, like if you drive the neighborhood soccer team to practice. And if you drive more, you'll also be hit with higher rates.

Where you live is a factor. Some neighborhoods have higher rates of vandalism and theft, and some also have higher accident rates. The insurers can charge you more just based on your zip code. In some states, insurers are legally required to cover certain repairs no matter what, like damaged windshields; in others, tight, winding, snowy roads may lead to more accidents. Either case ratchets up your payments.

If you have full coverage (as you must if there is still a bank lien on it), your insurance company will charge even more based on a variety of factors: how old the car is, how much it is worth, what its safety record is, how much it typically costs to repair damage to the vehicle. In addition, some insurers take into account things like car color. They look at car model - it's more tempting to drive a red Mustang convertible fast than it is to speed in a lime-green minivan. And they look at that specific car's overall accident record to see if it's higher than the average.

You can minimize your car insurance estimate by looking at all these factors and eliminating the ones that are in your power. Never pay more than you must for insurance.

Getting Car Insurance In The Philippines

Image : http://www.flickr.com

While I do agree that if we can afford it, we should get insured in preparation for incase something 'bad' or 'unexpexted' occurs. However, not all things are worth getting insured for.

Take for example car insurance. Its an absolute must to get a car insurance when buying a brand new car or a luxury vehicle in case of theft or serious damage.

But if you're getting a second hand car worth less than 300k pesos I dont think that paying for that unit's insurance is worth it.

Normally when an accident happens to your car. You take it to the 'talyer' to be fixed and to estimate the cost of repairs. Or you could take it to your car service station.

Depending on your chosen car insurance provider. Most car insurance company will only cover the amount in excess of 5k to 10k pesos. Which is pretty unfair and is one of my greatest gripes about paying for insurance.

For example, if your car insurance policy cover's only damage in excess of 10k pesos. And if the cost to have your car fixed is below 10k, you dont get paid by the
insurance agency. If it cost you 12k pesos to fix, the insurance agency will only pay you the 2k pesos. You shoulder the 10k pesos aside from the yearly premiums that you pay.

Ofcourse, there are exceptions to this. If you're livelihhod depends on your car like privately owned taxis, school and shuttle services or delivery vans for your pick up trucks like the popular mitsubishi L300 and the kia ceres. Getting an insurance will probably give you the peace of mind incase of theft. But the value of the vehicle should be taken into consideration before getting the insurance you think you might need.

There are a lot of ways which you can do to reduce your teen's rates.

First of all, enhance the security of your driving teenagers. Provide them with a car that they are capable of handling well. Sports cars which require high driving techniques are not suitable for them and will also contribute to higher rates. Get them sensible cars like your older but well-maintained solid cars. All these will help lower the chances of making insurance claims due to lower risks of accidents and car thefts.

High risk groups like teenagers should take an initiative to take up drivers training courses to enhance the quality of their driving. Enroll them in an intensive driving course and your teens will be more favorable to your insurers and might be entitled for discounts as well if they have passed these courses.

In addition, try searching for insurance companies who offer special plans for teens. They are usually able to offer cheaper rates compared to other companies who specialized in providing car insurances for other groups of people. Use the Internet to ease your findings and ask for discounts such as those for studying teens if the company happens to give out this discount.

Auto Insurance Brokers Must Be Helpful

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are many auto insurance brokers. Even though each and every driver must take out insurance for a vehicle there is a high level of competition. The astute driver is going to behave like a consumer when purchasing auto insurance. You must expect your broker to deliver the best service and provide you with a premium that you can afford. Not only must you be able to afford your premium but you must also get very good value for money. You are going to have to pay a premium every month for many years to come. When you think of your insurance costs over a longer period then it makes sense to expect the best coverage for as little as possible.

Auto insurance brokers all come with different policies and different offers. If you have some idea of what you need before approaching a broker it would make the process easier. The best place for you to start is to go online for some quotes. This will allow you to see how much a variety of premiums cost. Before you discuss anything with a broker you will have a good idea of what you get for your money. It is also possible that you may have extraordinary requirements. An example of this may be a vehicle fitted out for a disabled driver. In such an instance your broker may have to draw up a policy specifically for you.

It is important to remember that even if you have online quotes it is still the task of auto insurance brokers to help you find the policy that is best suited to your needs and to your pocket. It is also helpful to remember they are all competing for business and this makes them more amenable to bringing down your monthly premium as much as possible without compromising your cover.

Do You Have Enough Coverage?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Auto insurance is regulated by the state in which you live so every state is different. When you separate, inform your insurance agent. It is required by law in all states. Because without insurance it's difficult to bear heavy costs of damages you cause others with your vehicle. It is a service as well as a product and it is imperative that you compare the customer service of auto insurance and claims history of the insurance company. You need to compare various insurance coverage and company.

Coverage for your car is based on actual cash value. The actual cash value (ACV) of your car is based on the value of your car at the time of the accident, taking into account its current market value. Coverages include the type of losses for which the company agrees to pay. Each kind of coverage you buy will have its own section in the policy that details the situations it covers, persons insured under it, definitions of various words used, exclusions that apply to the section, and the limits of the company's protection in that section. Covered perils are listed in your policy. Be sure to review exclusions.

Coverage is often sold with a per person and total per loss maximum amount. For example, 100/300/50 coverage means that you have coverage of $100,000 bodily injury liability insurance per person, $300,000 total bodily injury liability insurance per accident, and $50,000 property damage liability per accident. Coverage will include liability for you and your employees, equipment, loss of income, and buildings (home office).

Cars are given a rating from 1 to 27, and the higher the number, the higher your premium. Car insurance quotes are just estimates, but after speaking with a representative of the car insurance company, you'll be able to make an informed decision about the type of coverage you want and the car insurance rate that will meet your budget or needs. Cheap auto insurance is easy to come by, even for those with less than excellent driving records.

Car insurance is one of the major monthly bills. These days it can range anywhere from $500 all the way down to $50. Car insurance is designed to protect you, your family, and your automobile. Drivers purchase insurance to ensure they are financially protected in case they are in an accident.

Auto insurance is basically the insurance which takes care of the auto parts of your car. Car insurance deals with the damages to your car, mainly the body of the car while auto insurance deals with the auto parts of your car including the engine. It is a major cost for the automobile owners in the US.

Tips For Buying Auto Insurance Online

Image : http://www.flickr.com

These tips for buying auto insurance online can help you achieve the best coverage for the best price. Achieving this will certainly benefit you in every way possible and help you to get the best of both worlds regarding any insurance needs.

Some insurers will offer some discounts. Although they may not be mentioned, you shouldn't be afraid to ask for them. For example, asking for a discount for multiple policies. For example, renters or homeowners insurance, as well as another vehicle being insured may get you a lower price. Not all insurance companies offer this, however.

If you have had an excellent driving record, make sure you ask for a safe driver discount. That would mean that there are no moving violations on your driving history in the last three years or so, and you have not made any claims. You may also benefit from a lower insurance rates if you have good credit. To increase your chances of getting this discount, refer to your credit report and make sure that there are no errors made on it. Move quickly to remove anything that is incorrect.

You may also get discounts on your auto insurance for low mileage. If you use public transportation to get to work, or you will have a very short commute, you may be granted lower rates. Likewise, if you have safety devices on your automobile, you may have more benefits there just as you would with anti-theft devices. In addition to that, if you have taken a defense driving course, you may be rewarded as well.

Some other tips that will help you to reduce your insurance rates would be to increase your deductibles. The higher your deductibles are, the lower your rates will be. Make sure you keep some of those savings in a special account to cover your deductible if needed in the case of an accident where repairs would have to be made.

It's important for everyone to understand that the make and model of a car plays a major role in determining the insurance rates. Obviously, the more expensive the vehicle, the more expensive it would be to repair it. Therefore, it would be more expensive to insure. The same is true of vehicles that are popular among thieves.

So the best thing you can do is applied these tips that were mentioned above, and do some comparison shopping online. You'll have access to many insurers and are able to do as many quotations for free as you'd like. This way, you have all the information at hand, all the proof at hand, and you can make an educated decision regarding your automobile insurance.

Recovery Costs to Hit Car Insurance Premiums

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Just days after news broke that car insurance premiums had risen by 4.5 per cent in the second half of last year cash-strapped motorists were warned this is just the beginning for premium increases.

Further rises in the cost of car insurance are expected due to an increase in wreck recovery prices. Insurers may now have to pay tens of millions of pounds more to recover vehicles under new plans - and this cost will almost certainly be passed on to drivers.

Currently, police in the UK are capped on the charges they implement should a write off take place. For example, removal costs are limited to £105. Storage fees are also charged at around £12 a day, while there is a typical £50 disposal fee.

However, the Government plans to introduce a banding system which would see charges rise. The costs would typically range from £150 to a whopping £8,400 based on the size of the car and location of the accident.

Most car insurance policies will take care of recovery costs for motorists - though drivers are being warned to check the small print to ensure they are covered.

With premiums rising, motorists should also take action to limit their monthly costs and shop around for cheap car insurance.

If your insurer introduces a significant hike to your policy at the time of renewal you should definitely look elsewhere. A quick search using a car insurance price comparison tool will indicate the deals that are available to you. In any event, you should always shop around and compare quotes.

You may not have noticed but last year there was a change introduced in how much our vehicles cost in relation to Car insurance premiums. More specifically, there was a change in how each vehicle is classed when taking out car insurance policies.

You won't be seeing any major changes just yet though as most insurers are yet to introduce these new rates for modern cars, especially if you drive a 4x4 or a sporty diesel (such as a Porsche Cayenne). These kinds of car are seen as more expensive to insure as they are likely to cause a lot of damage in a crash. In the past these cars were in a classification that meant they didn't cost as much as they do now to insure. Previously there have been 20 groups of classification since 1992, however the world of motoring has diversified significantly since then and so has been deemed fit for a revamp.

The deciding factors for which category your car fell into used to be maximum speed and acceleration, this is obviously too general considering that many cars now cost more to insure not only because of their power but the features held within. Most cars now come fitted with electric windows and airbags as standard, both features that were not as common back in '92 and also cost more to repair. Couple this with the growing trend of cars having built-in GPS devices and more performance parts this all makes a valid case for reviewing how we value a car's insurance.

The result of this review has seen 50 different categories to be put in place, as well as judging each car on a more comprehensive list of factors such as:

+ Repair Times

+ Performance

+ New car value

+ Even availability of body shells

The cars that will see the hardest hits are the previously mentioned 4x4s and Diesels, this is due to the Diesel cars being more powerful and 4x4s are obviously bigger and more likely to cause large amounts of damage. In some cases drivers have seen their premiums increase by 2½ times.

There are other factors that have affected motor insurance premiums such as location, if there is a spate of car thefts in your area then the insurer is going to adjust accordingly. To help combat this try to make space in your garage and keep your car in that overnight, this is a common question when getting new car insurance quotes and can make a significant difference especially if you live in one of these areas.

Another car type that has seen a high premium cost, but not necessarily an increase is the hybrid or electric cars. These are relatively new and so cost more to repair; however some motoring experts have suggested that this should even itself out as more hybrids are on the road. And with the increase in "green awareness" there is every chance that we'll see more and more people driving some form of greener vehicle.

The fact remains that since motoring has changed so drastically over the past 16 years, in order to value car insurance, changes have been necessary. Whilst insurers have yet to fully adopt this new valuation method they are more likely to use it in the near future in order to get accurate ideas of a car's worth. "The changes have been made to take into account the fact that there are now 6,000 models on the road.", said Malcolm Tarling of the ABI. 'The technology in cars and the techniques needed to repair them have become much more expensive, and that makes claims more expensive to meet."
