first estimate of an accident

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Yesterday was an experience! A few days ago, a young woman entered the intersection I was passing by and slaps the side of my car. We exchanged our greetings and insurance information.

Finally the day came for my appointment with the estimate of damages. I went to the Fix It Shop and got a quote for my insurance. This was in order. The shop looked good, and people were fantastic. When I walked in the door, I saw a sign onWall for the insurance company that has done little lady assured me, I know that my thoughts were. "A HA, I 2 birds with one stone here.

This is where I had an interesting lesson estimates always repaired. Oh yes! Check out my next step. Always be polite and speak with an open mind. You never know what to get you a good laugh.

Then I called his insurance company and told them where I was, and ask if they wanted to get an estimate. Girlssaid, "You can't do that". I said, "Why, I'm looking right at one of your sign, on their wall". She said, "It doesn't matter, you have to take it to one of our Drive Up Estimators". So, I got an appointment and took the car to one of Their Drive Up Estimators". When I got there, they said, "Why didn't you have the Repair Shop do the estimate?" DUH! You know I was wondering the same thing. Anyhow, everybody was nice and it worked out. I take the car in next Tuesday and pick up a rental car.

Oh Happy Day is coming, the day I'll have a good machine shop and can laugh at the days of my esteem.

Steps in Car Accident Insurance Claims

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Car accident is one of the leading causes of personal injury. A few suffer minor injury but almost half of that involved severe injuries, permanent disability and death.

A recent study shows that car accident results thousands of deaths each year. In fact, it is the leading cause of death of people between the age of 6 and 27.

Having been involved in a car accident is a traumatic experience. Aside from the physical pain and suffering, there is emotional distress, loss of income and property damage. All of these constitute financial compensation, which one can recover from the party at fault or from his insurer.

How to determine damages after a car accident

After a car accident, the next thing to do is to ask for compensation for the injury and other damages suffered. With this, the help of a capable car accident insurance lawyer is certainly needed.

The following are the steps to consider in filling your claim.

Secure a copy of the police report.
Know what protection your insurance policy will provide.
Sign a medical release so that a copy of the medical record will be presented to the insurance company.
Make a claim for physical injuries under medical pay coverage.
If the other party is at fault, make a claim under the uninsured motorist coverage.
Secure at least two car repair estimates if your car is totaled.
Present estimates and allow your car to be photographed.
Present bills for storage and towing cause.
Ask your agent to help arrange a temporary substitute vehicle if you have rental reimbursement coverage.
Notify your agent for any damages discover during the repair.

After filling your claims against the party at fault, you can also file a claim against your insurer. Filling a claim against the latter requires patience and hard work. The following are essential dos and don'ts that will guide you to facilitate your claim.

Do's

Do contact your insurance company immediately after the accident.
Do take time to read your insurance policy. This will guide you on what kind of claim you are covered.
Do your best to get details of the accident. You can also take pictures of the damaged vehicle or get the number of the witnesses.
Do make a note of the insurance detail of other persons involved in the accident.
Do keep a written account of your conversation with the insurance agent and other people involved in the accident.
Do keep receipts and bills of all expenses incurred in the accident to be presented to your insurer.
Do be frank and honest to your insurance collector so that your claim will not be denied.
Do check if you have other insurance policy that provides coverage for the same accident or injury.
Do consult a car accident insurance lawyer.

Don'ts

Do not admit any liability. Just stick on the facts without giving any opinion.
Do not give anything in writing to your insurance officer especially if you do not understand some part of our claim.
Do not let any time limit of your insurance claim runs out. Most of insurance company provides a period for filling claim after an injury. Do not disregard the period or else your claim will not be considered valid.
Do not take everything that your insurance agent tells you especially with regard to your claim. Most insurance companies like to settle claims in an amount smaller than that actually suffered.
Do not sign anything that is a release or a waiver of anything. If you are ask to sign and you are not sure of it call an attorney.
Do not take a check as a full and final payment unless you are certain that it is a fair compensation of your claim.

How Insurers Make a Car Insurance Estimate

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The things that are looked at in a car insurance estimate can be mystifying. Why should it matter whether your car is paid off? And who cares whether it is a Ford or a Dodge?

Insurers know what they're doing. Their estimates are based on a wide variety of factors that go together to determine their risk. When you take out an insurance policy, what you're really doing is asking them to take some of your risk and paying them to do it - so the only fair way to determine this is to look at all your risk factors.

The most obvious factor as to whether you are likely to cost them money is you and your driving record. Are you a safe driver? Do you have tickets, and have you been found at fault in accidents before? Even if you were not at fault in an accident where you were a driver, insurers take this into consideration because people who have an accident where they were 100% not at fault still have accidents at a higher rate after this first one. If you have taken a driver safety course, you may be able to get a lower rate.

Your age is a consideration; very young drivers, especially teenage males, tend to have more accidents. Very old drivers also have accidents at higher rates. A good car insurance estimate takes this into consideration, as well as smoking and drinking habits if it has a record.

Beyond your risk of being in an accident at all, insurers want to look at how much damage will actually be done to passengers in an accident that does occur. If you do not wear your seat belt, you will pay a higher rate because you are more likely to be seriously injured. (Ironically, motorcyclists who don't wear helmets often get a lower rate because they are likely to be killed in an accident, which costs the insurance company less.) Safety devices like airbags count for something, as does equipment on your car like anti-lock brakes. You may pay a higher rate with some insurers if you have a lot of passengers on a regular basis, like if you drive the neighborhood soccer team to practice. And if you drive more, you'll also be hit with higher rates.

Where you live is a factor. Some neighborhoods have higher rates of vandalism and theft, and some also have higher accident rates. The insurers can charge you more just based on your zip code. In some states, insurers are legally required to cover certain repairs no matter what, like damaged windshields; in others, tight, winding, snowy roads may lead to more accidents. Either case ratchets up your payments.

If you have full coverage (as you must if there is still a bank lien on it), your insurance company will charge even more based on a variety of factors: how old the car is, how much it is worth, what its safety record is, how much it typically costs to repair damage to the vehicle. In addition, some insurers take into account things like car color. They look at car model - it's more tempting to drive a red Mustang convertible fast than it is to speed in a lime-green minivan. And they look at that specific car's overall accident record to see if it's higher than the average.

You can minimize your car insurance estimate by looking at all these factors and eliminating the ones that are in your power. Never pay more than you must for insurance.

Recovery Costs to Hit Car Insurance Premiums

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Just days after news broke that car insurance premiums had risen by 4.5 per cent in the second half of last year cash-strapped motorists were warned this is just the beginning for premium increases.

Further rises in the cost of car insurance are expected due to an increase in wreck recovery prices. Insurers may now have to pay tens of millions of pounds more to recover vehicles under new plans - and this cost will almost certainly be passed on to drivers.

Currently, police in the UK are capped on the charges they implement should a write off take place. For example, removal costs are limited to £105. Storage fees are also charged at around £12 a day, while there is a typical £50 disposal fee.

However, the Government plans to introduce a banding system which would see charges rise. The costs would typically range from £150 to a whopping £8,400 based on the size of the car and location of the accident.

Most car insurance policies will take care of recovery costs for motorists - though drivers are being warned to check the small print to ensure they are covered.

With premiums rising, motorists should also take action to limit their monthly costs and shop around for cheap car insurance.

If your insurer introduces a significant hike to your policy at the time of renewal you should definitely look elsewhere. A quick search using a car insurance price comparison tool will indicate the deals that are available to you. In any event, you should always shop around and compare quotes.

Big Car? Big Insurance Premium!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

You may not have noticed but last year there was a change introduced in how much our vehicles cost in relation to Car insurance premiums. More specifically, there was a change in how each vehicle is classed when taking out car insurance policies.

You won't be seeing any major changes just yet though as most insurers are yet to introduce these new rates for modern cars, especially if you drive a 4x4 or a sporty diesel (such as a Porsche Cayenne). These kinds of car are seen as more expensive to insure as they are likely to cause a lot of damage in a crash. In the past these cars were in a classification that meant they didn't cost as much as they do now to insure. Previously there have been 20 groups of classification since 1992, however the world of motoring has diversified significantly since then and so has been deemed fit for a revamp.

The deciding factors for which category your car fell into used to be maximum speed and acceleration, this is obviously too general considering that many cars now cost more to insure not only because of their power but the features held within. Most cars now come fitted with electric windows and airbags as standard, both features that were not as common back in '92 and also cost more to repair. Couple this with the growing trend of cars having built-in GPS devices and more performance parts this all makes a valid case for reviewing how we value a car's insurance.

The result of this review has seen 50 different categories to be put in place, as well as judging each car on a more comprehensive list of factors such as:

+ Repair Times

+ Performance

+ New car value

+ Even availability of body shells

The cars that will see the hardest hits are the previously mentioned 4x4s and Diesels, this is due to the Diesel cars being more powerful and 4x4s are obviously bigger and more likely to cause large amounts of damage. In some cases drivers have seen their premiums increase by 2½ times.

There are other factors that have affected motor insurance premiums such as location, if there is a spate of car thefts in your area then the insurer is going to adjust accordingly. To help combat this try to make space in your garage and keep your car in that overnight, this is a common question when getting new car insurance quotes and can make a significant difference especially if you live in one of these areas.

Another car type that has seen a high premium cost, but not necessarily an increase is the hybrid or electric cars. These are relatively new and so cost more to repair; however some motoring experts have suggested that this should even itself out as more hybrids are on the road. And with the increase in "green awareness" there is every chance that we'll see more and more people driving some form of greener vehicle.

The fact remains that since motoring has changed so drastically over the past 16 years, in order to value car insurance, changes have been necessary. Whilst insurers have yet to fully adopt this new valuation method they are more likely to use it in the near future in order to get accurate ideas of a car's worth. "The changes have been made to take into account the fact that there are now 6,000 models on the road.", said Malcolm Tarling of the ABI. 'The technology in cars and the techniques needed to repair them have become much more expensive, and that makes claims more expensive to meet."

What to Look for in a Full Coverage Automobile Insurance Quote in Georgia

Image : http://www.flickr.com

A sad fact of life, regardless of where an individual lives is that every day people are being seriously injured and hurt in automobile accidents. In Georgia more than 400 people are killed each year in single vehicle accidents. These are typically the result of the motorist losing control and hitting a stationary object. Although many people will thankfully never find themselves in this type of situation, having a full coverage automobile policy in place can make the aftermath of a serious accident more manageable for both the person involved and their family.

Collision coverage is a basic part of any full coverage automobile insurance policy. Anyone seeking a quote for a policy that includes collision coverage should inquire about comprehensive coverage too. There is a deductible involved and it's a wise idea to ask for a high deductible as a means to save on the premiums.

A standard amount for towing is also a part of most full coverage automobile insurance quotes. Following an accident, many cars just aren't mobile. If you have towing coverage in place, that amount will be paid for by your insurance company. The cost for this is actually quite minimal and you'll be glad you have it if you do need a tow.

Many drivers decide to modify their vehicles by adding on things like chrome wheels and stereos. You should be aware that those items typically won't be covered by a standard auto insurance policy. You'll likely need to purchase a separate rider for any extras and you'll need to pay the cost of that in addition to your standard premium. Installing a car alarm is a great idea as it not only protects those extras but it will work to lower your premiums too. Auto insurance companies generally offer a small rate reduction for those clients who do have an anti-theft device in place.
